Ultraviolet opening shot

Opening shot from the Screen Gems motion picture ULTRAVIOLET, directed by Kurt Wimmer. I was responsible for technical direction on this shot, as well as a lot of the poly modeling for the buildings.

I coded a suite of scripts which populated the city with traffic lights, animated cars, bus stops, newspaper machines, rooftop miscellany, and the like.

I also made a script which auto-generated and auto-textured a number of generic low-lying buildings.

Ultraviolet bike sequence

Stills from the antigrav motorbike chase from the Screen Gems motion picture ULTRAVIOLET, directed by Kurt Wimmer. I was responsible for all particle effects work on this shot, as well as detailing the background (rooftop miscellany, building touchup, cars on street).

I put together a "virtual squib" rig that, given custom Maya locators to indicate timing and position of the bullet hits, would:

- Aim the gun correctly and fire a bullet enough frames beforehand that it would hit on time.
- Fire a tracer round (with smoke trail) every fifth round
- For each bullet hit, turn on one of ten random pre-computed particle simulations, with different ones for marble, glass, and metal hits
- Create damage on the building
- Turn on a pre-computed muzzle flash element and accompanying light burst
- Emit a shell casing

Additionally, I helped with the Renderman shader for the debris, so that we could put out various AOV renders for the reflection in the building, as well as for the regular debris.
